Farmers in Igembe North Constituency, Meru County, are appealing to the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) for prompt compensation following extensive crop destruction caused by elephants.
According to the affected farmers, the recent government relief supplies—comprising a bag of maize, a bag of beans, and eight kilograms of porridge flour per household—are inadequate to offset the significant food insecurity resulting from the damage.
They emphasize that these provisions will only last a short period and urge local leaders to ensure timely compensation payments to help restore their livelihoods.
Deputy County Commissioner Martin Mwiha noted that the relief food is intended as a temporary measure to support farmers as they prepare to resume farming activities.
