Five people lost their lives and one sustained serious injuries after two trucks collided at around 4 a.m. on the Marsabit–Isiolo Road near Kargi Junction, approximately 10 kilometres from Marsabit Town.
Marsabit County Police Commander Leonard Kimaiyo confirmed the trucks, both carrying beans and travelling towards Isiolo, collided when one vehicle hit the rear of the other. The exact cause of the rear-end collision remains under investigation.
Four victims died at the scene, while a fifth succumbed to injuries at Marsabit County Referral and Teaching Hospital, where the injured survivor is also receiving treatment.
Police officers secured the crash site and collected evidence, with all deceased transferred to the hospital mortuary. Commander Kimaiyo urged motorists to observe traffic regulations and drive cautiously as investigations continue.
