Five individuals died following a collision between two trailers along the Marsabit–Isiolo Road early on Friday morning.
The crash occurred around 4:00 a.m. at Kargi Junction, roughly 10 kilometres from Marsabit Town. Both trailers were reportedly carrying beans and heading towards Isiolo when one vehicle rammed into the rear of the other.
Marsabit County Police Commander Leonard Kimaiyo confirmed the incident, stating that four victims died on the spot while a fifth succumbed to injuries later at Marsabit County Referral and Teaching Hospital. One person remains hospitalized with serious injuries.
Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. The deceased were taken to the county hospital mortuary pending identification and post-mortem examinations.
Recent Road Accidents Raise Safety Concerns
This tragedy follows another fatal crash just a day earlier on the Nakuru–Eldoret Highway, where six people, including three students, died after a collision involving a matatu, private van, and trailer. Emergency responders evacuated injured passengers to nearby health facilities.
Additionally, two pupils died in a separate school bus accident in Meru County, which also left over 50 people injured.
Authorities continue to urge motorists to exercise caution on the roads, highlighting that speeding and reckless driving remain leading causes of fatal accidents nationwide.
