Authorities in Mombasa have detained four people, including a child, after neighbors in the Chaani area raised alarms about unconventional religious activities at a rented property.
According to reports, the group was engaged in extended prayer sessions lasting several hours. Some residents also claimed to have witnessed participants lying on nearby roads and appearing partially unclothed in public, which heightened community concerns.
Mombasa County Commissioner Mohamed Noor stated that security personnel acted swiftly following the complaints. Preliminary investigations confirmed the prolonged nature of the prayer gatherings, which prompted neighbors to report the incidents.
Commissioner Noor criticized the landlord for not alerting authorities despite being aware of the unusual activities taking place on the premises. He emphasized the responsibility of landlords to report suspicious occurrences to security agencies to prevent escalation.
