Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has congratulated Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru on his swearing-in as the Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou Constituency in Nyandarua County.
In a statement dated July 28, 2026, Gachagua emphasized that the period of campaigning and celebrations is over, urging the new MP to immediately prioritize delivering services to his constituents.
Call to Serve Constituents
Gachagua reminded Waweru of the responsibility that comes with his electoral win, encouraging him to listen closely to the needs of the people who elected him. He urged the MP to quickly settle into his role and focus on fulfilling the mandate given by the residents of Ol Kalou.
The former deputy president also alleged that the government attempted to influence the by-election by deploying billions of shillings in projects and cash handouts to sway voters. He stated that the electorate rejected these efforts, which he described as "bribes and intimidation." These claims have not been independently verified.
Milestone for Democracy for the Citizens Party
Gachagua hailed Waweru’s victory as a significant achievement for the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), marking its first entry into the National Assembly.
He described the win as a foundational step towards building a large political movement aimed at forming the 6th Administration. The DCP intends to expand its influence across the National Assembly, Senate, Council of Governors, and county assemblies through what Gachagua called the "Green Revolution."
"The DCP Party is the party of the moment and the future, which is Green," he added.
Waweru’s induction into parliament signals the party’s growing presence ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
