Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced that the era of Limuru political meetings for the Mt Kenya region is over, declaring his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County as the new centre for regional decision-making.
Speaking during an interview with Professor Herman Manyora on July 30, 2026, the Democracy for Citizens (DCP) leader firmly rejected any plans for a Limuru 4 gathering. Instead, he emphasized that all consultations and political strategies for the Mt Kenya communities will now be coordinated from Wamunyoro.
"There is nothing like Limuru 4; all decisions are made here in Wamunyoro. We have changed from Limuru to Wamunyoro," Gachagua declared.
Wamunyoro has become a vibrant political base under Gachagua’s leadership, hosting a variety of stakeholders including grassroots leaders, MCAs, former MPs, clergy, elders, and opposition figures. The venue recently held an extensive 45-day retreat focused on strategy development and coalition building ahead of the 2027 elections.
Legacy of Limuru Meetings
- Limuru I (2010): Convened to unify Mt Kenya behind the 2010 Constitution and elevate Uhuru Kenyatta as the region’s leading voice.
- Limuru II (2012): Endorsed Uhuru Kenyatta as the Mt Kenya presidential candidate for the 2013 elections, cementing the Uhuru-Ruto alliance.
- Limuru III (2024): Organized under the theme "One Mountain, One Voice," addressing governance concerns and strengthening regional unity, with discussions on Uhuru Kenyatta’s role.
By shifting focus to Wamunyoro, Gachagua signals a break from these traditional forums, consolidating political activities under his direct control and advancing the DCP’s grassroots recruitment and opposition coalition efforts.
Regional Political Coordination
Other venues like Kirigiti and Sagana have played roles in broader Mt Kenya political discussions but have not matched Limuru’s historical prominence. Gachagua’s move centralizes these efforts and positions Wamunyoro as the strategic command centre for the region’s political future.
