Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has sharply criticized President William Ruto, accusing his administration of overseeing rampant corruption unprecedented in Kenya's history.

Speaking during a church service on Sunday, July 26, 2027, Gachagua stated that corruption has intensified since Ruto took office, warning that the President will be remembered as "Kenya’s most corrupt" leader since independence.

Gachagua's allegations include:

  • Government officials demanding bribes from foreign nationals, including Westerners.
  • Normalization of bribery practices within public institutions.
  • Claims that rogue plainclothes police officers are being used to intimidate and assault citizens, allegedly with backing from senior security officials.

He further suggested that these developments risk tarnishing Kenya’s international reputation. However, Gachagua did not present evidence to substantiate these claims.

These accusations follow a series of public criticisms by Gachagua against the Kenya Kwanza administration, including assertions that President Ruto has lost control of the country and that lawlessness is on the rise.

On July 13, 2026, Gachagua took to Facebook to allege that the President had effectively surrendered his governing authority and was unaware of unfolding events in the country.

The ongoing feud between Gachagua and President Ruto highlights deepening divisions within Kenya’s political landscape as the 2027 general elections approach.
