Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has disclosed that insiders within State House regularly provide him with confidential information regarding President William Ruto's plans. He revealed that he was informed hours before Ruto delivered his recent State of the Nation Address about the President's intention to unveil a long-term development vision.

In an interview with political analyst Herman Manyora, Gachagua explained that his sources alerted him that the original plan was to introduce a 'Vision 2060' strategy, which was later modified to a post-2030 vision. However, he insisted the substance of the message remained unchanged.

Gachagua stated:

  • "On Thursday morning, I got information from my sources. I have many sources. I was in government for many years. Many people are quite concerned about what is happening in the country, especially the civil service."
  • "They are patriotic men and women who feel terrible when the country is going down at a high speed, and they've taken it upon themselves to alert me when there's danger."

He thanked civil servants, police officers, National Intelligence Service personnel, and parastatal workers who have shared information with him, emphasizing the importance of preserving his credibility for the country's benefit.

Gachagua further claimed that the information came directly from State House and highlighted widespread dissatisfaction among government employees, particularly those in the Presidential Delivery Service. He alleged that the President is preoccupied with personal interests rather than national priorities.

Defending his decision to go public with sensitive information, Gachagua said his experience working closely with Ruto, including as his deputy, has earned him the trust of many Kenyans. He described himself as fearless in holding the President accountable.

However, he emphasized careful verification of information before making allegations public, warning against misleading the public and losing credibility.

Just hours before President Ruto's address on July 30, Gachagua appeared to anticipate the speech by criticizing the unveiling of Vision 2060 instead of focusing on achievements of the past year.

During his national address, President Ruto urged Kenyans to embrace a new long-term economic framework beyond Vision 2030, while highlighting his administration's economic record.
