Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has formally requested the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, to guarantee security for himself, his supporters, and residents during his upcoming visit to Emurua Dikirr Constituency in Narok County.

In a letter addressed to IG Kanja, Gachagua outlined his plan to attend a thanksgiving event on August 21, 2026, following an invitation from Democratic Congress Party candidate Vincent Rotich. He expressed concern over threats circulated through videos and social media warning against his presence in the area.

Gachagua emphasized his constitutional right to travel freely and engage in political activities anywhere in Kenya. He condemned recent violent incidents, including clashes at a political rally in Homa Bay County, describing them as a serious threat to national peace and security.

He reminded the police chief of his duty to protect lives and property, noting that he had previously reported 24 attacks against him during a meeting with the Inspector General in January 2026. Gachagua urged the police to take concrete steps to prevent any violence during his Narok visit.

Security Concerns and Questions to Police

  • Can the police assure the safety of Gachagua, his entourage, and Emurua Dikirr residents on August 21?
  • Are the police adequately prepared for the visit?
  • Have sufficient security measures been implemented to safeguard life and property?

The letter comes amid a series of violent disruptions targeting political gatherings across Kenya, including a recent attack on the Linda Mwananchi movement convoy in Homa Bay. The convoy reportedly faced roadblocks and hostile groups attempting to block access to certain areas.

These incidents have reignited calls for thorough investigations into the orchestrated interference with political events and the protection of democratic freedoms.
