Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has committed to conducting open and democratic nominations within the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) ahead of the 2027 General Election. He assured party members that candidate selection will be free from imposition, allowing grassroots supporters to decide who will represent the party.
Launch of 'Operation Fagia'
During a rally in Nanyuki, Laikipia County, on August 1, 2026, Gachagua introduced Operation Fagia, a strategic campaign aimed at sweeping rival politicians from elective posts across Laikipia and the broader Mt Kenya region. The slogan resonated strongly with supporters, who echoed calls to "fagia" or sweep away opponents.
Commitment to Transparent Nominations
Addressing the crowd, Gachagua emphasized that DCP nominations will be conducted fairly and transparently, with no candidates being imposed from above. He highlighted that party members themselves will choose their flag bearers, reinforcing democratic principles within the party.
Political Tensions in Mt Kenya
In the same rally, Gachagua criticized former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri, accusing him of betraying Mt Kenya by aligning with President William Ruto's administration. He urged Laikipia voters to reject Kiunjuri, declaring his political influence in the area to be finished.
Since parting ways with President Ruto, Gachagua has ramped up political engagements across Mt Kenya, using the platform to grow DCP’s support base and strengthen the party’s position ahead of the upcoming elections.
