Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced the inclusion of Joseph Ole Torris, an ODM-elected Member of County Assembly (MCA) from Ewuaso Oonkindongi, Kajiado County, into the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP). This marks a strategic expansion of DCP's presence ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Gachagua revealed that Mr. Torris, who won his seat on an ODM ticket, will now defend it under the DCP banner, reflecting the wishes of his constituents. The former Deputy President described this move as evidence of DCP's growing influence beyond its traditional strongholds.
DCP's Growing National Footprint
Sharing images from their meeting on social media, Gachagua emphasized that the party is gaining traction in diverse regions, including among the Maa community. He stated, "DCP is the party of the moment and the future, and it has been accepted as the party that will transform the Maa Nation and Kenya at large."
He further pledged that a DCP-led government would focus on communities historically marginalized since independence, promising targeted development initiatives to integrate them into the mainstream.
Gachagua concluded with the party’s rallying slogan: "The future is Green."
Intensified Mobilization Ahead of 2027
The recruitment of an ODM-elected MCA into DCP comes amid an intensified effort by Gachagua to position the party as a national alternative to President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA). In recent weeks, DCP has welcomed leaders from various political backgrounds and increased political tours across the country.
Gachagua has committed to fielding candidates nationwide in 2027, aiming to build a broad coalition capable of challenging the incumbent Kenya Kwanza administration.
