A tragic incident unfolded on Thursday morning at the Kangoki Dumpsite in Thika West Sub-County, Kiambu County, where a 42-year-old garbage truck driver lost his life after his vehicle came into contact with a high-voltage power line.
The deceased, identified as Joseph Mwangi Muchiri, had just offloaded waste and was driving away when the raised dump bed of his truck struck overhead electricity cables. The electric shock led to his immediate electrocution.
Good Samaritans rushed Mr. Muchiri to Thika Level Five Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries en route. Police officers and a Kenya Power emergency team arrived promptly at the scene, finding the truck still in contact with the power lines. The electricity supply was isolated to secure the area.
Authorities documented the scene before transferring the body to General Kago Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is pending. Police investigations into the circumstances of the accident are ongoing.
