Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has publicly defended Deputy President Kithure Kindiki amid what he describes as efforts by some Cabinet colleagues to undermine the second-in-command.

Ruku accused certain fellow Cabinet Secretaries of belittling Kindiki and warned against political manoeuvres to weaken his authority. He specifically called out Cooperatives CS Wycliffe Oparanya, urging him to concentrate on his ministerial duties rather than engaging in actions that disrespect the Deputy President.

Ruku’s Warning to Fellow CSs

Expressing concern over growing internal government tensions, Ruku stated:

  • "This disrespect must stop. I have observed some of my fellow ministers trying to diminish Professor Kithure Kindiki."
  • He emphasized that the Deputy President’s seat is not vacant and is firmly held by Kindiki.
  • Ruku cautioned Oparanya against making remarks that fuel unnecessary political conflict.

Deputy President Position Not Negotiable

On speculation about the 2027 election cycle, Ruku was clear that the Deputy Presidency is not up for negotiation:

  • "The seat of the Deputy President of Kenya is occupied by Professor Kithure Kindiki and nobody can challenge that."
  • He affirmed that Kindiki will remain Deputy President through President William Ruto’s next term from 2027 to 2032.

Ruku contrasted the Deputy President’s position with other roles such as Prime Cabinet Secretary and parliamentary speakers, which he said could be discussed in power-sharing talks.
