The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) has announced a full-time internship opportunity in Nairobi, Kenya, tied to its climate-resilient water management project in Somalia.
Internship Overview
The six-month placement runs from September 2026 to February 2027 and supports the German-funded initiative focusing on the Juba and Shabelle river basins. The project aims to enhance policy frameworks, improve institutional coordination, and implement flood protection strategies in collaboration with Somali federal and state governments.
The monthly gross salary for the role is €2,349 (approximately KSh 346,000), supplemented by a foreign service allowance based on the assignment location.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting project management tasks including client reporting and operational planning
- Monitoring project implementation progress
- Organizing and following up on workshops and administrative activities
- Contributing to public relations by compiling success stories
- Conducting research on impact assessments and cost-benefit analyses to inform project adjustments and future funding
Eligibility and Requirements
- Master’s degree or equivalent in development cooperation, water management, climate adaptation, development economics, or related fields
- Recent graduates (within six months) or current students enrolled in programmes incorporating internships
- Fluency in German and English at C2 level
- Experience in project management within German development cooperation or evidence-based programming
- Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with AI tools
- Preferred regional knowledge of East Africa or the Horn of Africa
