Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia FC have booked their place in the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup final after a thrilling penalty shootout victory against Sudan's Al Hilal SC at Kigali's Pele Stadium.
The match was tightly contested, with Gor Mahia initially taking the lead through an own goal by Steven Ebuela in the 34th minute. Al Hilal responded quickly, equalising via Ansumana Samura ten minutes later.
Despite several chances, neither team could break the deadlock in regular time. The contest intensified when Gor Mahia’s Jackson Dwang received a second yellow card, forcing the Kenyan side to play the remainder of the match with ten men.
After a goalless extra time, the outcome was decided by penalties. Harambee Stars goalkeeper Bryne Odhiambo was the standout, helping Gor Mahia clinch an 8-7 shootout win and advance to the final.
Final Showdown and Prize Money
Gor Mahia will face Rwanda’s Rayon Sport FC, who defeated South Sudan’s Jamus SC in the other semi-final, in the final scheduled for Friday at Kigali’s Amahoro Stadium.
The winner of the tournament will take home a prize of US$30,000 (approximately KSh 3.9 million), while the runner-up will receive US$20,000 (about KSh 2.6 million). The third-place team will earn US$10,000 (around KSh 1.3 million).
