Gor Mahia FC booked their place in the final of the 2026 CECAFA Club Championship following a gripping semi-final encounter against Sudan’s Al-Hilal Omdurman at Kigali Pele Stadium.
The match was tightly contested, with Gor Mahia taking the lead in the 38th minute. However, Al-Hilal quickly responded, equalizing in the 43rd minute to send the teams into halftime level at 1-1.
The second half saw both sides create chances but neither could break the deadlock, forcing extra time. Early in extra time, Gor Mahia substitute Leslay Otieno missed a promising opportunity, firing over the bar.
In the 100th minute, Gor Mahia went down to ten men after Jackson Dwang received a straight red card. Despite being a player short, Gor Mahia’s defense held strong to keep the scoreline unchanged through extra time.
The winner was decided by a tense penalty shootout, where both teams showed remarkable composure. A crucial miss from Al-Hilal gave Gor Mahia the advantage, and they clinched the victory 8-7 on penalties.
Gor Mahia will face Rayon Sport in the final after the Rwandese club defeated Jamus of South Sudan 3-1 in the other semi-final.
