The government has issued a stern warning to politicians against employing criminal gangs or manipulating youth to intimidate opponents and disrupt political events. Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo emphasized that political contests must be settled through democratic processes, not violence.
Addressing an interdenominational prayer service and fundraiser for church choirs in Nyamira County, Omollo highlighted that violence and criminality should not characterize Kenya's political environment. He urged young people to reject exploitation by politicians seeking to advance personal agendas through intimidation.
"If you do not support a particular leader, wait for the elections and exercise your democratic right. Violence, intimidation and criminal gangs have no place in our politics," Omollo stated.
The PS praised Nyamira residents for upholding peace and resisting organized crime, suggesting the county as a model for peaceful political engagement where diverse views can be expressed freely and without fear.
He directed the County Commissioner, National Government Administrative Officers, and security agencies to collaborate with local leaders and communities to maintain peace, prevent political violence, and ensure public meetings proceed without disruption.
Omollo also announced the operationalization of additional administrative units in Nyamira County to enhance public service delivery. He encouraged qualified individuals to apply for Chief and Assistant Chief positions, underscoring the importance of effective grassroots administration for security and development.
Further, the PS called on Kenyans to reject leaders who promote ethnic or religious divisions and highlighted government investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and employment to foster national unity and inclusive growth.
The event was attended by Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, the President's Adviser Farouk Kibet, legislators, religious leaders, elders, and residents from Nyamira, Kisii, and neighboring counties.
