In the early hours of Friday, July 31, a General Service Unit (GSU) officer's residence at the Embakasi B Campus in Nairobi was gutted by fire in an incident believed to be arson following a domestic disagreement.
The officer, identified as David Kwalanda, had returned to his Uni-Hut home when his former girlfriend reportedly found him with two other women. An argument broke out, leading Kwalanda to escort the visitors out of the camp.
While at the main gate, he was alerted that his house was on fire. Witnesses told police they saw the suspect fleeing the scene shortly after the blaze started.
Other officers residing within the camp responded promptly and managed to extinguish the fire. Despite their efforts, the house and its contents were destroyed. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The fire consumed government-issued equipment, specialized police gear assigned to the officer, and personal belongings estimated at around KSh200,000.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations' Crime Scene Investigations unit processed the scene, and police have launched investigations to apprehend the suspect.
