The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has lined up several significant corruption and economic crime cases for court hearings across Kenya between August 3 and 7. The cases involve former senior government officials, county executives, and other public officers, with courts in Nairobi, Kakamega, Eldoret, Meru, and Lodwar handling the matters.

Notable Cases Scheduled

  • Milimani Anti-Corruption Court, Nairobi:
    • On Monday, a ruling is expected in a suit seeking recovery of Sh1.4 million allegedly fraudulently paid as salaries by Homa Bay County Government, involving Eve Goga and three others.
    • Hearings on August 3, 4, and 6 will involve former NITA Director General Paul Kipsang Kosgei and four others, charged with fraudulent acquisition of public property after authorizing payments totaling Sh28.4 million to Xphonics Limited.
    • On Tuesday, a recovery suit against Charles Kizito Wanjala Masinde will be heard, with EACC seeking Sh3.5 million linked to salary advances, reimbursable payments, and an unpaid vehicle during his tenure at Kenya Wine Agencies Limited (KWAL).
    • Also, a civil recovery suit involving Silvan Onyango Ogoda and nine others will be mentioned, concerning Sh43.1 million allegedly irregularly paid from Kasarani NG-CDF and Project Management Committee accounts.
    • On Friday, the court will mention a case against former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko and another individual over conflict of interest allegations related to a Sh10 million revenue collection contract awarded by Nairobi City County Government.
  • Kakamega Anti-Corruption Court: On August 6, former Vihiga County Chief Officer for Health Services Arnold Kimiya Mamadi and 11 others will face charges including conspiracy, fraudulent acquisition of public property, and uttering false documents linked to the irregular tender award for a blood transfusion centre at Vihiga County Level Four Hospital.
  • Eldoret Court: A criminal case against former Chebororwa Agricultural Training Centre principal Nicholas Kiprop Kaino and four others will be mentioned, involving allegations of conspiracy and fraudulent withdrawal of Sh11.4 million belonging to the institution.
  • Meru Law Court: A corruption case involving Pauline Waruguru Mwangi and three others will be mentioned concerning the alleged embezzlement of Sh4.8 million allocated by Igembe North NG-CDF for six transformers.
  • Lodwar Court: The case of former District Accountant Elias Tirop Tomno and Francis Gatua will be heard, with charges of conspiracy and fraudulent acquisition of public property related to the mismanagement of Sh2.6 million at Turkana District Treasury.

These cases highlight ongoing efforts by the EACC to recover public funds and hold officials accountable for corruption across various counties and government institutions.
