Kajiado North Member of Parliament Onesmus Ngogoyo has cautioned political leaders against divisive rhetoric as Kenya prepares for the 2027 General Election. He emphasized that sustained political hostility risks undermining economic growth and investor confidence.
Speaking on a local TV station on August 4, 2026, Ngogoyo urged politicians to focus on peaceful, issue-driven campaigns rather than ethnic or political division. He highlighted that Kenya’s economy cannot prosper amid tension and conflict.
Calls for Unity and Peaceful Elections
Describing himself as a peace advocate, Ngogoyo stressed the importance of national unity regardless of political differences. He condemned inflammatory remarks that deepen ethnic divides and called for legal accountability through due process rather than intimidation.
“We want peaceful elections where the contest is based on issues, not division,” Ngogoyo said, adding that Kenya will remain long after the elections and must avoid crisis.
Linking Political Stability to Economic Growth
The MP warned that ongoing political tension could deter investment, disrupt business operations, and slow economic progress. He urged leaders to view elections as democratic contests that should not compromise the country’s stability.
Ngogoyo’s message aligns with his earlier calls for economic reforms, including prompt government payment of pending bills to ease cash flow challenges for businesses. In June, he highlighted the negative impact of delayed payments on the private sector and urged the National Treasury to expedite disbursements.
His recent remarks broaden the focus by connecting peaceful political engagement with economic prosperity and appealing to all political actors to promote stability as Kenya approaches the 2027 polls.
