Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka convened a meeting with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa in Nairobi on Tuesday. The discussions focused on consolidating opposition forces ahead of the 2027 General Election.
This engagement followed Kalonzo's chairing of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party's joint Council and National Executive Committee meeting at the SKM Command Centre in Nairobi. The coalition's Council had tasked Kalonzo with reaching out to aligned political groups to build a broad-based national opposition.
Specifically, Kalonzo was authorized to engage parties such as the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), People's Liberation Party (PLP), United Green Movement (UGM), and the Linda Mwananchi movement once it gains official registration.
Sharing images from the meeting on social media, Kalonzo described the talks as consultations on the country's political future. He emphasized the ongoing efforts to unify the opposition to restore hope and deliver a better Kenya.
Eugene Wamalwa echoed this sentiment, highlighting their commitment to fostering a united, peaceful, and improved nation. He noted that their unity is a deliberate and enduring covenant.
The meeting has sparked speculation about a potential broader alliance involving Azimio, Gachagua's DCP, and other political groups aiming to challenge President William Ruto's administration in 2027. Gachagua, a key figure in Mt Kenya politics and vocal critic of the current government, is seen as a strategic addition to the opposition coalition.
These developments suggest a shift among opposition leaders towards transcending individual party lines to form a more inclusive political front ahead of the forthcoming elections.
