Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has addressed speculation about his recent absence from public view and rumours of secret meetings with President William Ruto at State House Nairobi.
Speaking at the SKM Centre on July 30, Kalonzo explained that following a breakfast meeting with editors on July 28, he travelled to Zanzibar. He subsequently took a boat to Dar es Salaam on July 29 and returned to Kenya early on July 30.
"For full disclosure, I was in Zanzibar after the breakfast meeting on Tuesday, July 28. On Wednesday, I took a boat to Dar es Salaam and left there early Friday morning," he stated, dismissing the claims of a State House encounter during this period.
The rumours had suggested that Kalonzo was in talks with President Ruto ahead of the 2027 general election, a move that would have marked a significant political shift given his role in the United Opposition coalition.
Kalonzo used the opportunity to reaffirm his dedication to the opposition's goal of unseating President Ruto in the upcoming elections.
"I want to assure our supporters and all Kenyans that if I am the last person to drive Ruto out, I will do so," he declared.
The press conference followed a meeting with the Linda Mwananchi coalition, led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, which has announced plans to field its own presidential candidate in 2027, further complicating the opposition landscape.
