Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has strongly condemned the arrest of Mukurwe-ini MP John Kaguchia following allegations of incitement during a political rally in Nyeri County.
Kaguchia was detained after he warned Mt Kenya residents of consequences if they voted for President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election. Speaking in Kikuyu at a Kieni rally, he said voters for Ruto would be tracked and "smoked out." The MP spent the night at Royal Media Services offices before being arrested by Regional DCI commander Daniel Kandie and officers at the premises.
In a social media statement, Kalonzo called for the law to be applied fairly and not selectively, highlighting that several leaders allied to President Ruto have made provocative remarks without facing repercussions. He cited instances where government officials used inflammatory language without any legal action.
Kalonzo emphasized:
- "We do not support incitement from anyone. Leaders must uphold peace and respect the rule of law."
- "The Constitution guarantees freedom of expression, and justice must not depend on political allegiance."
- "Selective justice undermines democracy and must be rejected."
MP Kaguchia has insisted he is willing to cooperate with authorities but called for lawful and transparent procedures in his arrest. He is currently held at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters along Kiambu Road.
