Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has dismissed President William Ruto's Vision 2060 development plan, labeling it a political distraction from Kenya's urgent economic problems.
Speaking at St Peter's ACK Cathedral in Embu during a church service, Kalonzo emphasized that the government should prioritize upholding constitutionalism and the rule of law before unveiling long-term development strategies. He highlighted pressing issues such as inflation, unemployment, and the high cost of living affecting millions of Kenyans, arguing that immediate solutions are needed rather than promises extending decades ahead.
Kalonzo also pointed out that the goals of the existing Vision 2030 agenda have not yet been fully achieved, making the introduction of Vision 2060 premature and unrealistic.
Opposition Dynamics and Political Allegations
The Wiper leader rejected claims that former President Uhuru Kenyatta is financing the opposition, stating that Kenyatta is a principal figure within the Azimio coalition. He further alleged that the Kenya Kwanza administration might use state agencies, including the Kenya Revenue Authority, to intimidate the former president.
On coalition politics, Kalonzo revealed that opposition leaders are currently consulting to agree on a single presidential candidate to challenge President Ruto in the upcoming 2027 General Election.
He condemned lawmakers implicated in bribery related to the attempted impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, calling for those found guilty to be disqualified from public office under the constitutional integrity provisions.
Unity and Constitutional Governance
Addressing remarks attributed to Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku about the Mt Kenya region, Kalonzo asserted that the region will remain united, reflecting the broader national cohesion he advocates.
Accompanying leaders urged opposition principals to consolidate their support ahead of the 2027 polls, warning that a united front is essential to effectively challenge Ruto's re-election bid. They also accused the Kenya Kwanza government of repeated constitutional violations, calling for leadership that respects democratic institutions and the rule of law.
