Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has categorically ruled out any pre-election negotiations with President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking at the Kajiado Youth Declaration Forum in Olpolosie, Kajiado County, Kalonzo dismissed rumors suggesting he might abandon the United Opposition to form a coalition with the Kenya Kwanza administration.
"Ruto wants Kenyans to talk to him and has sent emissaries, which caused some anxiety, but any discussions with him will only happen after the election," Kalonzo said. He emphasized that the opposition remains united in its goal to unseat the current government.
On President Ruto's proposal for a post-Vision 2030 development charter, Kalonzo criticized the government for failing to fulfill existing commitments. He remarked, "They have not delivered on promises. Even Singapore’s level of development is far off, yet they speak of moving to Canaan via Singapore, but people are still unemployed."
Kalonzo also accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of corruption and economic mismanagement, defending his record by stating that despite his 42 years in leadership, he has never engaged in theft or corruption.
Further, he warned the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) against any attempts to amend laws that would alter the live streaming of election results, underscoring the need for transparency.
Support from Ukambani Leaders
Regional leaders from Ukambani have reaffirmed their support for Kalonzo’s presidential bid, rejecting claims of any potential alliance with President Ruto before the polls.
- Kathiani MP Robert Mbui described such coalition talks as a "big dream," affirming Kalonzo’s commitment to the presidency.
- Embakasi South MP Musili Mawathe called the rumors baseless.
- In Trans Nzoia, DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa labeled the reports as divisive propaganda aimed at weakening opposition unity.
Wamalwa urged opposition leaders to maintain solidarity as the country approaches the 2027 elections.
