Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has confirmed plans to meet former President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday, August 3, as opposition leaders intensify consultations ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking at a press briefing on July 30 alongside Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and members of the Lina Mwanchi brigade, Kalonzo described the meeting as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen opposition unity.
Denies Secret Meeting with President Ruto
Kalonzo dismissed rumors suggesting he met President William Ruto during a recent trip to Tanzania. He clarified that he was in Zanzibar for a breakfast meeting with editors and then traveled to Dar es Salaam before leaving early on July 30.
"I want to assure all citizens that I will be the last man to drive Ruto out," he stated, emphasizing that videos circulating online alleging a State House visit were fabricated.
Opposition Stance Ahead of 2027 Polls
The Wiper leader reiterated his refusal to collaborate with President Ruto, insisting that their rivalry will be decided at the ballot box on August 10, 2027.
"I want to tell Ruto, please stop imagining that Kalonzo Musyoka can ever join you. We will meet at the ballot," he declared.
Parliamentary Leadership Changes Protested
Kalonzo also revealed he had written to Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, protesting recent parliamentary leadership reshuffles that removed Edwin Sifuna as minority deputy whip, describing the move as a conspiracy against the opposition.
Calls for Opposition Unity
As the election year begins, Kalonzo accused the Kenya Kwanza government of panic and urged opposition supporters to remain united. He expressed optimism, likening the current coalition's momentum to the historic 2002 election when opposition forces united to defeat the ruling party.
