Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called on President William Ruto to prioritize implementing the Constitution of Kenya 2010 and the existing Vision 2030 development blueprint instead of pursuing the new Vision 2060 agenda.
Speaking during a Sunday service at ACK St Peter’s Cathedral in Embu on August 2, 2026, Kalonzo emphasized that Kenya’s immediate focus should be on constitutional adherence and improving citizens’ welfare.
Vision 2030 Provides a Clear Path
Kalonzo highlighted that Vision 2030, introduced under former President Mwai Kibaki, was designed to elevate Kenya to middle-income status with a high quality of life. He expressed concern that the country has strayed from these goals, pointing to rising insecurity and abductions as indicators that constitutional rights must be upheld first.
“Vision 2030 was meant to make Kenya a middle-income country enjoying a high quality of life. Instead of that, we have seen young people being abducted. That is not Vision 2030,” he stated.
Kenya’s Development Must Align with Its Constitution
While acknowledging the African Union’s Agenda 2063 as a continental framework, Kalonzo stressed that Kenya’s development priorities should be grounded in its own constitution and current national plans.
“Africa may have Vision 2063, but Kenya must remain guided by its Constitution,” he noted.
Opposition Strategy Ahead of 2027 Elections
On the political front, Kalonzo defended his approach to the upcoming 2027 General Election, saying his team is quietly building alliances and engaging international partners without seeking constant media attention.
“We are working smart. Sometimes we have to go outside the country and engage our international friends. We do not have to announce everything we are doing,” he said.
Kalonzo reiterated the opposition’s commitment to fostering national unity, constitutionalism, respect for the rule of law, and cohesion. He also urged leaders to avoid divisive politics, highlighting the shared historical and cultural ties between communities in the Mt Kenya East and Ukambani regions.
The remarks came as President Ruto attended a separate church service in Uasin Gishu County, underscoring the growing political debate over the Vision 2060 agenda ahead of the elections.
