Kenya and China have announced a strategic partnership to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies to advance their film industries and deepen cultural ties.

Speaking at the launch of The Bond Season Six in Nairobi on July 31, 2026, Chinese Ambassador Guo Haiyan emphasized China's readiness to support Kenya in adopting AI-driven innovations to modernize film production and stimulate growth within the creative economy.

"Film serves as a vital bridge connecting cultures," Ambassador Guo stated, highlighting the partnership's goal to enhance cultural exchange and strengthen bilateral friendship.

Kenya-China Film Co-Productions and Industry Growth

Kenya Film Commission CEO Timothy Owase expressed enthusiasm for collaborative film co-productions with China, aiming to open new opportunities for filmmakers from both countries.

"This collaboration will facilitate skills transfer, foster technological innovation, and enable the creation of films that can compete in regional and international markets," Owase explained.

He added that shared expertise and partnerships are key to raising production standards and producing globally competitive content.

Government Commitment to Responsible Content and Investment

Kenya Film Classification Board CEO Nelly Muruka affirmed the government's dedication to ensuring access to age-appropriate and responsible content, noting that The Bond Season Six has been classified for viewers aged 16 and above.

Government Spokesperson Charles Owino reiterated support for international investors in Kenya's creative sector, emphasizing the government's role in creating a conducive environment for investment that drives job creation, local talent development, and positions Kenya as a prime film production hub.

"We welcome investors ready to collaborate with Kenyan creatives, transfer skills, and contribute to the sector's growth," Owino said.

The event also brought together key figures including Media Council of Kenya CEO David Omwoyo, Kenya Broadcasting Corporation Managing Director Agnes Kalekye, China Media Group Regional Bureau Director Song Dailing, alongside government officials and industry stakeholders.
