Kenya Condoles Ecuador Following Death of Intelligence Chief in Mt Ololokwe Crash
Kenya extends condolences to Ecuador after the fatal Mt Ololokwe helicopter crash claimed the lives of Ecuador’s intelligence chief and others.
The Kenyan government has formally expressed its sympathies to Ecuador after the tragic helicopter crash near Mt Ololokwe that killed Ecuador’s chief of intelligence, Michele Sensi-Contugi, and his wife, Stephany Maria Hollihan Vasconez de Sensi-Contugi.
Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei confirmed he has been in contact with Ecuador’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alejandro Davalos, to convey Kenya’s condolences to both the Ecuadorian government and the bereaved families.
PS Sing’Oei emphasized Kenya’s dedication to swiftly finalizing the preliminary investigations surrounding the crash. He assured that authorities would facilitate the retrieval and repatriation of the victims’ remains, ensuring they receive a dignified farewell.
Crash Details and Investigation
The incident occurred on Wednesday near Mt Ololokwe in Samburu County, involving a locally chartered helicopter carrying the intelligence chief, his wife, four American nationals, and the pilot. The crash happened around 9:13 a.m. at this scenic and culturally significant mountain.
The Air Accident Investigations Department (AAID) is leading the probe, supported by aviation experts from France and the United States. A preliminary report is expected within 30 days, with a comprehensive final report due within a year. The findings aim to clarify the cause of the accident and recommend measures to prevent future tragedies.
