Kenya Kwanza coalition leaders have called on President William Ruto to take decisive action against alleged information leaks originating from State House. The appeal follows claims by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that he obtained confidential details about the President’s recent State of the Nation address in advance.
Speaking in Shinyalu, Kakamega County, prominent leaders including Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka and Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula expressed concern that such leaks pose a threat to national security. They also praised President Ruto’s address, describing it as a sign of effective governance.
Background to the Leak Allegations
Hours before President Ruto delivered his address on Thursday, Gachagua spoke at a gathering in Nyeri, suggesting the speech would focus on a long-term vision but lack concrete achievements from the past year. He claimed the President planned to unveil a Vision 2060 initiative, possibly led by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, but argued the government should first account for its recent performance.
Later, Gachagua revealed in an interview with political analyst Herman Manyora that his information came from insiders within State House, including civil servants and security personnel. He asserted that these sources, motivated by patriotism and concern over the country’s direction, regularly share sensitive data with him.
"I received information on the morning of the address from multiple sources inside government," Gachagua said. "There is widespread dissatisfaction among State House staff and government agencies, and many feel the President is detached from the country’s pressing issues."
President Ruto’s Vision Beyond 2030
In his State of the Nation address, President Ruto officially launched preparations for Kenya’s development blueprint beyond Vision 2030, initiating a nationwide public participation exercise scheduled to begin on August 12, 2026. He described this as the most significant public consultation since the 2010 Constitution.
Despite the initiative’s importance, the speech faced criticism from opposition leaders and citizens who highlighted ongoing economic challenges such as inflation and taxation.
Kenya Kwanza’s Call for Action
In response to the leak allegations, Kenya Kwanza leaders urged President Ruto to identify and remove disloyal elements within State House to safeguard national interests. They emphasized the need for unity and confidentiality in government operations, especially concerning sensitive policy announcements.
