Kenya has achieved a historic milestone by winning its first-ever Grand Prix at the prestigious Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. The award was secured by The Partnership Agency for their innovative campaign titled "Paid Sick Leave for Cows", created for the Kenyan dairy brand Too Good.
Campaign Tackles Dairy Sector Challenges
The campaign addresses a critical issue in Kenya's dairy industry where farmers lose income during mandatory antibiotic withdrawal periods when milk cannot be sold. Too Good introduced a compensation scheme that financially supports farmers during these times, effectively discouraging the sale of unsafe milk while protecting rural livelihoods and ensuring food safety.
Creative Team and Impact
- The creative team included Deepesh Jha, Megha Dutta, Rakesh Jha, with contributions from Ankush Chawla and Sally Sawe.
- Executive Creative Director Megha Dutta emphasized the significance of the win as a testament to African creativity's global competitiveness.
Africa’s Growing Influence in Global Advertising
This victory makes Kenya only the second African nation, after South Africa, to claim a Cannes Lions Grand Prix. It also contributed to Publicis Groupe Africa being named Regional Network of the Year at the 2026 festival. The Cannes Lions competition attracts entries from over 90 countries, with global giants like Apple, Google, and Mastercard vying for top honours.
The success of a locally focused campaign over international heavyweights highlights a major shift in the global perception of African creative industries.
