The 16th edition of the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) National Sports Championship commenced at Kitui Teachers Training College, Kitui County, running from July 28 to July 31, 2026.
Dr. Kelly Oluoch, CEO of KMTC, officially opened the event, highlighting its importance in the college's annual calendar. This year’s championship features participation from 92 KMTC campuses across eight regional zones, with about 2,200 student athletes and 400 staff members involved, marking it as one of the largest sporting gatherings in KMTC history.
Under the theme “Holistic Student Development: Beyond the Game; Building Healthy Minds, Strong Bodies, Lasting Connections,” the championship aims to foster teamwork, resilience, friendships, and comprehensive student growth beyond mere competition.
National sports federation officials are overseeing the event to ensure high-quality officiating and to scout for exceptional talent.
Kitui Health County Executive Committee Member Ruth Koki emphasized that the championship will enhance national unity by bringing together participants from diverse regions of Kenya.
