The Kenya Meteorological Department has released a five-day weather forecast covering August 1 to August 5, 2026, predicting intermittent rainfall and cool spells in 14 counties across the country.
Counties affected by cool and cloudy conditions include:
- Nairobi
- Kiambu
- Nyeri
- Nyandarua
- Murang'a
- Kirinyaga
- Kajiado
- Makueni
- Machakos
- Kitui
- Embu
- Tharaka-Nithi
- Meru
- Garissa
Nyandarua is expected to experience the coldest temperatures, with minimums dropping to 7°C early in the week. Moderate afternoon showers will affect the county over the weekend, easing to lighter rains by midweek.
Counties such as Nyeri, Kirinyaga, and Murang'a will encounter a mix of cloudy mornings and light showers, with Kirinyaga and Murang'a forecasted to receive light rain specifically on Tuesday.
Nairobi will witness cloudy to sunny intervals in the mornings, with light showers anticipated on Saturday. Temperatures are expected to drop to around 12°C by Wednesday.
In the Rift Valley and western regions, moderate afternoon showers are forecast for Uasin Gishu, Kericho, Bomet, Nandi, Elgeyo/Marakwet, and Kakamega. Trans Nzoia, Bungoma, Busia, Siaya, and Kisumu will experience lighter but more frequent rains. West Pokot and Samburu counties will see a combination of light and moderate afternoon showers throughout the forecast period.
Coastal counties including Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, and Lamu are expected to remain mostly sunny, with light showers arriving by midweek. Northern counties such as Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit, and Isiolo are forecast to stay largely dry and sunny, except for Garissa which will face intermittent cool and cloudy weather.
