The Kenya Meteorological Department has released its weather forecast for August 2026, highlighting predominantly dry and sunny conditions across many parts of the country.

Rainfall Outlook

  • Near-average to below-average rainfall is expected in counties including Trans Nzoia, Bungoma, Busia, Kakamega, Siaya, Vihiga, Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, southern West Pokot, Kisumu, Kericho, Nyamira, Kisii, Bomet, Migori, Homa Bay, Narok, Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale, and Tana River.
  • Counties such as Turkana, Samburu, parts of West Pokot, Elgeyo Marakwet, and Baringo are forecast to experience below-average rainfall.
  • Some isolated heavy rainfall events may occur in a few counties, but overall rainfall will be limited.

Temperature and Weather Conditions

  • Warmer-than-average temperatures are expected nationwide, with Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Isiolo, Turkana, and Samburu counties anticipated to experience the highest temperature increases.
  • Generally sunny and dry weather will prevail over Marsabit, Wajir, Mandera, Isiolo, Garissa, Taita Taveta, Kajiado, and parts of Narok and Tana River.
  • Intermittent cool, cloudy conditions with occasional light rains or drizzle are forecast in Nairobi, Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri, Embu, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Kirinyaga, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Makueni, Kitui, and Machakos counties.

Wind Conditions

Strong southerly to south-easterly winds, reaching speeds above 25 knots (approximately 13 m/s), are expected intermittently in parts of Marsabit, Turkana, Samburu, Isiolo, Wajir, Mandera, Garissa, Tana River, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, and Lamu counties.
