The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has issued a seven-day weather forecast indicating predominantly dry conditions across most of the country.

Between August 4 and August 10, rainfall is anticipated in 11 counties: Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Kakamega, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo/Marakwet, Kericho, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Murang’a, and Nakuru. These rains are expected mainly during mornings and afternoons, with some counties experiencing thunderstorms.

County-Specific Rainfall and Weather Patterns

  • Morning rains: Trans Nzoia, Bungoma, Elgeyo/Marakwet, Kericho, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Turkana.
  • Morning showers: Lamu, Tana River, Kilifi, Kwale, Mombasa.
  • Intermittent morning cloudiness with light rain: Embu, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Meru, Murang'a, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Tharaka-Nithi, Nakuru, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita/Taveta, Marsabit, Wajir.
  • Afternoon showers and thunderstorms: Baringo, Bomet, Bungoma, Busia, Elgeyo/Marakwet, Homa Bay, Kakamega, Kericho, Kisii, Kisumu, Migori, Nandi, Narok, Nyamira, Samburu, Siaya, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Vihiga, West Pokot.
  • Night showers: Bungoma, Embu, Kakamega, Kirinyaga, Meru, Murang'a, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Tharaka-Nithi, Trans Nzoia, Turkana, Uasin Gishu, West Pokot.

Meanwhile, several counties including Garissa, Isiolo, Kajiado, Kilifi, Kitui, Kwale, Lamu, Machakos, Makueni, Mandera, Marsabit, Mombasa, Nairobi, Taita/Taveta, Tana River, Turkana, and Wajir will experience sunny intervals, especially in the afternoons.

Temperature Outlook

Daytime temperatures are expected to surpass 30°C in coastal and northern counties such as Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Garissa, Wajir, Isiolo, Marsabit, and Turkana. Conversely, cooler nights with temperatures below 10°C are forecast for parts of Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nakuru, Narok, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties.

Residents are advised to prepare accordingly for the dry conditions and localized rains, especially in the counties highlighted for precipitation.
