The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a forecast indicating that most parts of the country will experience dry weather from August 4 to August 10, 2026.
Rainfall is expected mainly in Western Kenya and Rift Valley counties such as Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Kakamega, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Kericho, Nyandarua, Nyeri, and Murang'a.
Intermittent cool and cloudy conditions are predicted in parts of Embu, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Meru, Murang'a, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Tharaka Nithi, Nakuru, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, Marsabit, and Wajir counties.
Daytime temperatures will generally remain high, exceeding 30°C in counties including Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Garissa, Wajir, Isiolo, Marsabit, and Turkana. Conversely, chilly nights with temperatures dropping below 10°C are expected in the Central Highlands and parts of the Rift Valley, including Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nakuru, Narok, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta.
Monthly Outlook
For August, the Met Department projects predominantly sunny and dry conditions across most regions, although light rains and cooler spells will persist in the Central Highlands. Daytime temperatures will range from 16°C to 37°C, while night-time lows are expected between 5°C and 26°C.
Warmer than average mean temperatures are anticipated nationwide despite the usual August coolness. Some counties in the west and coastal areas may receive near-average to below-average rainfall, while northern and north-eastern counties are expected to remain generally dry.
Kennedy Thiong'o, deputy director and senior meteorologist, emphasized that residents in Nairobi and neighboring highland counties should prepare for cold mornings typical of this season. He also noted that isolated heavy rains could occur in certain areas despite the overall below-average rainfall forecast.
