Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected in several counties, while central and eastern regions will experience cool, cloudy conditions.

Counties such as Trans-Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kisii, and Nyamira are likely to experience thunderstorms. Other areas including Nakuru, Turkana, and West Pokot may also see showers and storms in parts of their regions.

Cool and Cloudy Conditions

Intermittent cool and cloudy weather is forecast for parts of Embu, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Meru, Murang'a, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Tharaka-Nithi, Kitui, Makueni, and Kajiado counties.

Strong Winds Along Coast and Northern Areas

Strong southerly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s) are expected in Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Tana River, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kitui counties.

Temperature Outlook

  • Nairobi: Partly cloudy night, cloudy morning with sunny intervals, afternoon sunshine; temperatures between 12°C and 24°C.
  • Nyandarua: Coolest with lows of 9°C, morning light rains, afternoon showers.
  • Bomet: Minimum temperature around 11°C.
  • Mandera: Hottest with highs reaching 35°C.
  • Turkana: High of 35°C with showers and thunderstorms in some areas.

Recent Rainfall Data

Between 9 am on July 31 and 9 am on August 1, Eldoret recorded the highest rainfall at nearly 7mm, followed by Kakamega with approximately 5.5mm, and Kericho with about 3.7mm. Other stations like Eldoret Airport, Mtwapa, Embu, and Ruruma-Mikomani recorded lesser amounts. Moyale, Nanyuki, Kangema, Nyeri, Dagoretti, and Mombasa saw minimal to no rainfall during this period.

Coastal Weather

Counties along the coast such as Mombasa, Kwale, and Kilifi are expected to have mainly dry conditions with sunny intervals. Light morning showers may occur in some places but will clear as the day progresses.
