The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecasted rainfall for 21 counties on Friday, July 31, 2026, with showers expected in parts of the Rift Valley, Western Kenya, and the Central Highlands.
Counties Expected to Receive Rainfall
- Rift Valley and Western Kenya: Uasin Gishu, Bungoma, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Kakamega, Trans Nzoia, Vihiga, Bomet, Nandi, Meru, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Nyamira, and Kisii.
- Central Kenya: Kirinyaga, Embu, Murang'a, Nyeri, and Nyandarua.
The rainfall is expected to vary from light to moderate, with isolated areas possibly experiencing heavier showers.
Additional Weather Conditions
Cool and cloudy weather will prevail intermittently in several counties including Embu, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Meru, Murang'a, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Tharaka-Nithi, Kitui, Makueni, and Kajiado. Nairobi residents should anticipate cool, cloudy mornings with some sunny spells later and a chance of light rain. Daytime temperatures in the capital will range between 20°C and 24°C, dropping to 12°C–15°C at night.
Murang'a County will experience morning fog and light rain, followed by sunny intervals in the afternoon and evening, although light showers may still occur.
Strong Winds and Coastal Weather
Strong winds exceeding 25 knots are expected across northern and coastal counties such as Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Tana River, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kitui.
Along the coast, dry and windy conditions will dominate through August 3, with occasional brief morning showers possible early in the forecast period. Daytime temperatures will hover between 29°C and 30°C, with lows around 23°C.
The meteorological department has issued a caution for marine activities due to moderate to strong southerly winds of 7 to 10 meters per second, which are expected to cause moderate to rough sea conditions.
