Kenya Power has reinstated its prepaid electricity token purchase platforms after a disruption that followed a widespread power outage affecting multiple regions across Kenya.

In a statement released on Thursday, the utility confirmed that customers can once again buy prepaid tokens. However, it cautioned that a surge in transaction volumes has led to delays in token delivery as the company works through a backlog.

System Disruption and Outage Details

  • The disruption occurred shortly after a major power outage on Wednesday night, reported in areas including Nakuru, Kilifi, and Nyeri.
  • The outage was attributed to a system disturbance and impacted both residential and commercial electricity users.
  • Kenya Power reported full restoration of electricity supply by 2:00 pm on Thursday.

Current Status and Customer Advisory

  • All prepaid payment platforms are now operational, allowing customers to purchase tokens.
  • Due to the high demand following the restoration, token delivery may not be instantaneous.
  • The company is actively clearing the backlog to resume real-time token issuance.

Kenya Power thanked customers for their patience as teams worked to resolve the outage and its subsequent effects on token purchasing services.
