Dr. Mirriam Ogunja, a Kenyan academic who rose to prominence in China after securing a fully funded Chinese Government Scholarship, has successfully completed her PhD at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC).
Ogunja arrived in Chengdu in 2021 to pursue a Doctor of Business Administration focused on Organisational Behaviour and Human Resource Management. She was the only woman among twelve recipients of the competitive scholarship.
From Television Appearance to Cultural Recognition
Shortly after settling in Sichuan province, Ogunja appeared on Sichuan Living, a local show highlighting expatriate experiences. Her candid insights and fluent communication made her episode the most viewed in the programme's history, earning her an award during Sichuan's Mid-Autumn Festival in 2024.
The exposure led to numerous opportunities, including partnerships with brands, invitations to cultural events, and engagements with business leaders interested in Africa. Ogunja reflected on the importance of representation, noting her role as many viewers' first interaction with a Kenyan.
Academic Achievements and Global Engagements
