Eng. Kipkemoi Kibias, the Acting Managing Director of Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO), has dismissed accusations that he deliberately delayed the recruitment of a substantive CEO to prolong his tenure.
In a statement released on Sunday, Kibias clarified that he was not consulted to confirm whether he had applied in the ongoing recruitment round. He described the claims of interference as unfounded and without merit.
He further explained that the recruitment process has been hampered by ongoing court cases which have affected the KETRACO Board's quorum, thereby limiting its capacity to finalize the appointment within the expected timeframe. These developments, he emphasized, are beyond his control and relate to governance and legal challenges.
Kibias reaffirmed his adherence to the established recruitment procedures throughout his service as Acting MD. He was appointed to the acting role on September 19, 2025, following consultations involving the KETRACO Board, the Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, and Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi.
He pledged to cooperate fully with the Board once it is properly constituted to ensure the recruitment process concludes lawfully and transparently.
