Kiambu County Assembly Majority Leader Godfrey Waiyaki Mucheke has publicly backed Governor Kimani Wamatang’i, highlighting his administration's extensive development achievements over the past four years.
Mucheke, who is serving his second term and eyeing the Juja parliamentary seat, pointed to numerous completed projects as evidence of Wamatang’i’s strong leadership and impact on the county.
Key Developments Under Governor Wamatang’i
- Construction of 512 new Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres
- Implementation of a feeding program providing uji, eggs, and milk to ECDE pupils
- Building and equipping 32 new hospitals alongside renovation of 56 existing health facilities
- Installation of 12,000 solar-powered street lights
- Development of seven bus parks with trader stalls and establishment of 26 new markets
- Provision of 100,000 new water connections
- Construction of roads, bridges, drainage systems, and eight stadiums
- Support extended to over 750,000 farmers and upgrades to vocational training centres
Challenge to Critics
Mucheke urged critics of Governor Wamatang’i to provide concrete photographic and data proof of a better-performing governor anywhere else in Kenya. He emphasized that Wamatang’i’s leadership has elevated Kiambu’s national profile through tangible development rather than political rhetoric.
“As the Majority Leader of Kiambu County Assembly, I am proud of the progress our governor has delivered. I challenge anyone to show evidence that surpasses his record,” Mucheke stated.
Looking Ahead to 2027
The Kiambu gubernatorial race in 2027 is expected to be highly competitive. Governor Wamatang’i faces potential challengers including former Kiambu governor James Nyoro, businessman John Mwaura of the Democracy for the Citizens Party, and Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a, a close ally of President William Ruto.
