A ward representative from Kiambu County, MCA Pater Mburu, has urged that opinion polls ranking county governors should be supported by photographic or video evidence of completed projects to bolster credibility.
Mburu cited the example of Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi, whose performance record includes numerous development projects that can be visually verified. He highlighted Wamatangi’s achievements such as the establishment of 512 Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) centres, 32 new hospitals, and the installation of 12,000 solar-powered streetlights.
Other accomplishments noted include a feeding program providing eggs, uji, and milk to pupils, renovated medical equipment, 26 markets, bus parks, stadiums, and 19 vocational training centres. Under Wamatangi’s leadership, the county’s Own Source Revenue (OSR) increased from KSh 2.9 billion to KSh 6.5 billion, and over 750,000 farmers have received government support.
Mburu emphasized that governors who have genuinely delivered should have no difficulty presenting such evidence, stating, "I would love to see anyone else rated above him present such compelling proof."
Ranking Dispute Sparks Call for Transparency
The call for tangible proof followed a recent Infotrack survey that ranked Murang'a Governor Irungu Kangata as Kenya’s top-performing governor, with Wamatangi in second place and Trans Nzoia’s George Natembeya third.
While Mburu did not directly challenge the rankings, he stressed that evaluations should rely on concrete evidence rather than opinions alone to ensure accountability and transparency in assessing county leadership.
