Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina has urged law enforcement agencies to arrest Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma, citing his alleged role in inciting violence against members of the Linda Mwananchi movement in Homa Bay.
Maina highlighted reports of attacks on Linda Mwananchi supporters, with some victims hospitalized and others reportedly killed. She linked the unrest to statements attributed to Kaluma that allegedly encouraged attacks on government opponents.
Calls for Equal Law Enforcement
Maina criticized key agencies including the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for not taking action against Kaluma, suggesting a double standard in handling inflammatory remarks by politicians.
She pointed out that while other leaders have been swiftly arrested for similar offenses, Kaluma remains free despite making serious remarks.
Direct Appeal to NCIC Chair
Maina addressed the NCIC chairperson, who is also a bishop, urging him to act impartially and fulfill his mandate by ensuring Kaluma faces the law.
Constitutional Grounds for Demand
Invoking Article 27(1) of Kenya's 2010 Constitution, Maina emphasized the right to equal protection under the law, demanding that Kaluma be arrested and charged to uphold constitutional principles rather than political interests.
This development intensifies pressure on security and legal institutions to demonstrate impartiality in prosecuting political figures accused of incitement, regardless of their affiliations.
