Kirinyaga Senator Kamau Murango has accused unidentified hooded men of abducting Justin Kinyua, a youth official from the Democratic Citizens Party (DCP), claiming the incident reflects increasing political intimidation against young people.
In a statement released on August 4, Murango condemned what he described as the rising political persecution targeting youth, alleging that Kinyua was forcibly taken to an undisclosed location by unknown individuals. The senator expressed deep concern over the alleged exploitation of police and government agencies to silence dissenting political voices among young Kenyans.
Murango stated: "Justin Kinyua has been abducted and is being driven to an unknown destination, raising serious concerns about the growing misuse of police and government machinery."
He emphasized that government institutions should protect citizens and uphold the rule of law rather than suppress political opposition, especially among youth. Murango warned that ongoing intimidation risks increasing public frustration and eroding trust in state institutions.
The senator, along with Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina and Kigumo MP David Mathenge, is actively following up to determine Kinyua's whereabouts. Murango pledged support for young people facing political arrests and intimidation, underscoring the importance of resolving political differences through democratic means rather than coercion.
As of the report’s publication, neither the National Police Service nor the Directorate of Criminal Investigations had commented on the alleged abduction or Kinyua’s status.
