The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has introduced a new online platform enabling organisations to verify Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificates issued between 1989 and 2024. This digital service eliminates the need for physical visits when confirming the authenticity of academic documents.

Registration Process for Organisations

To access the verification service, organisations must register as verifiers on KNEC’s e-Certificate platform. During sign-up, they select the "Verifier Organisation" option and submit required details, including a copy of their incorporation certificate. KNEC then verifies the information via a six-digit One-Time Password (OTP) sent to the provided email address.

Applications undergo an approval process where KNEC reviews submitted documents. Approved organisations receive confirmation emails and gain access to the Verifier Dashboard. If an application is declined, KNEC provides feedback and allows resubmission with corrections.

Verification Procedure

Once registered, organisations can initiate certificate verification by submitting a request on the dashboard. They must provide the candidate’s index number, examination year, full name as on the certificate, and upload the candidate’s e-certificate in PDF format. Multiple candidates can be included in a single request.

Additionally, verifiers specify the reason for verification and confirm an email address to receive results. Payment can be made using account credits or via eCitizen with M-Pesa and other supported channels.

Receiving Verification Results

After processing, KNEC issues verification outcomes in three formats:

  • A consolidated PDF report covering all candidates in the request.
  • Individual PDF reports for each candidate.
  • An online list indicating whether each certificate is "Genuine" or "Referred to KNEC" for further review.

This service provides a streamlined digital solution for employers, educational institutions, and immigration bodies to authenticate KCSE qualifications spanning over three decades.
