The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has introduced an online e-certificate portal that enables organisations to verify the authenticity of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificates and other academic credentials electronically.
Steps to Verify KCSE Certificates Electronically
- Account Registration: Visit https://ecertificate.knec.ac.ke/ and sign up as a Verifier Organisation by providing corporate details and uploading your certificate of incorporation.
- Email Verification: After registration, a 6-digit OTP is sent to the organisation’s email to verify and activate the account.
- Approval Process: KNEC manually reviews and approves verifier organisation accounts before granting access.
- Submitting Verification Requests: Once approved, organisations can submit individual or batch verification requests by providing candidate details including full name, examination index number, exam type, exam year, and uploading a scanned PDF of the certificate.
- Purpose and Consent: Organisations must specify the reason for verification and accept a legal consent declaration before proceeding.
- Payment: Fees can be paid via a pre-funded portal wallet or through eCitizen using M-Pesa and other integrated payment methods.
- Downloading Reports: Upon completion, KNEC provides detailed reports in PDF format indicating whether certificates are genuine or referred for further verification.
This digital solution enhances the efficiency and reliability of academic credential verification, benefiting employers, academic institutions, and other stakeholders across Kenya.
