The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has introduced an online verification system that allows employers, educational institutions, and other organisations to authenticate Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificates without visiting KNEC offices.
This new platform covers KCSE certificates issued from 1989 through 2024, providing instant confirmation of candidates' results.
How Organisations Can Access the Service
- Visit the KNEC website at knec.ac.ke and select the e-certificate tab or go directly to ecertificate.knec.ac.ke.
- Register as a "Verifier Organisation" by submitting required details and a certificate of incorporation.
- Confirm registration via a one-time password sent to the registered email.
- Await approval from KNEC administrators who review the application.
Approved organisations gain access to a Verifier Dashboard, where they can submit verification requests for one or multiple candidates by providing the candidate’s index number, exam type, exam year, full name as on the certificate, and uploading the candidate’s e-certificate in PDF format.
Verification requests must include a delivery email for results and specify the purpose of verification, such as employment, admission, or immigration. Organisations then accept a consent declaration before proceeding to payment via eCitizen using M-Pesa or other supported methods.
Verification Outcomes and Reporting
- Once verified, organisations can download comprehensive reports with individual candidate results.
- The system indicates whether certificates are genuine or require further KNEC review.
KNEC has made a detailed user guide available for organisations at ecertificate.knec.ac.ke to assist with the process.
This digital service is expected to significantly reduce certificate fraud challenges by streamlining the authentication of academic qualifications for job recruitment and admissions.
