The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has introduced an electronic verification system for Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificates issued from 1989 through 2024. This platform aims to simplify credential authentication and bolster the integrity of Kenya's examination certification process.
How the System Works
- Organisations and institutions that regularly verify academic certificates must register as verifier organisations by submitting their details and certificate of incorporation via the portal.
- Applicants receive a one-time password (OTP) to confirm their email addresses before KNEC reviews and approves their registration.
- Once approved, users can access a dashboard to submit verification requests by entering the candidate’s index number, examination year, type, full name, and uploading the e-certificate in PDF format.
- Verification requires indicating the purpose, such as employment, admission, or immigration, accepting a consent declaration, and making payment through KNEC credits or the eCitizen platform, including M-Pesa.
- After processing, organisations can download consolidated and individual verification reports that confirm the authenticity of each certificate or flag it for further review.
Benefits and Usage
The digital platform is designed to assist employers, educational institutions, immigration authorities, and other official bodies in conducting prompt and reliable checks on KCSE certificates. KNEC encourages all relevant organisations to adopt this service to reduce the prevalence of forged academic documents.
For further guidance, users can download the verifier organisation user guide available on the e-Certificate portal. This initiative aligns with KNEC’s broader efforts to digitise services, improve operational efficiency, and safeguard the credibility of Kenya’s examination results.
