The Nakuru Senior Principal Magistrate's Court resumed hearings on Monday into the disappearance of fisherman Brian Odhiambo, who allegedly went missing while in the custody of Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers near Lake Nakuru.
Abdulrahman Sudi, the fifth accused and driver implicated in the operation, took the stand to provide his defense. However, his testimony was inconsistent, with several contradictions emerging under cross-examination.
Sudi stated that he guarded a young man for nearly two hours, whose description closely matches that provided by Odhiambo's family. Despite this, he insisted the person was not Brian Odhiambo. He also conflicted himself regarding the suspect’s restraints, initially saying the man was handcuffed but later testifying the hands were tied with a rope.
Describing the moment the suspect escaped, Sudi said he allowed the man to relieve himself after opening the vehicle door and untying the rope, but the man then pushed him and disappeared into a nearby forest. When questioned on how the suspect, whom he described as weak and exhausted, managed to overpower an armed Sudi, he could not provide a clear explanation.
Sudi further revealed that the operation was led by his superior, Francis Wachira, and took place in the Vietnam and Sewage areas near Lake Nakuru.
The six accused officers, including Wachira, Sudi, Evans Kimaiyo, Michael Wabukhala, Alexander Lorogoi, and Isaac Ochieng, face charges related to Odhiambo’s disappearance on January 25, 2025.
The court adjourned the hearing and scheduled the next session for August 24.
